A junk car
Still has parts worth reusing, such as a good engine, straight doors or wheels. Part of its value comes from those parts.

Some cars are not junk. They are past junk. The frame has rusted through, half the parts are gone, there is a tree growing out of the engine bay, or it burned in a garage fire. Nobody is driving it again, and the only value left is in the metal.
Getting a scrap car removed properly matters. We pick up anywhere in St. Albert and the surrounding area for free, pay you, and send the vehicle to licensed recyclers instead of a ditch. Call or text (780) 699-7175 for a quote.

People use the words interchangeably, but there is a useful difference.

Has little left to salvage. Its value is mostly steel, aluminium, copper and other metals, plus a few recoverable parts such as the converter.
You do not need to know which you have. Describe the vehicle and we will work it out. Pickup is the same either way.
An old car holds engine oil, transmission fluid, coolant, brake fluid, power steering fluid and fuel, plus a lead-acid battery and air-conditioning refrigerant. Some older models contain mercury switches. Left in a yard, these can leak into soil, groundwater and waterways such as the Sturgeon River and North Saskatchewan.
Fluids are drained, the battery is removed, refrigerant recovered and hazardous components taken out.
Anything still usable, especially the catalytic converter, is removed.
The body is shredded; magnets and sorting systems separate steel and iron from aluminium and copper.
Separated metals are sold to mills and foundries for new products.
Alberta scrap metal dealer and recycler rules require buyers to record seller identification and vehicle details. We ask for ID and proof of ownership.
Tell us the year, make, model, what is missing and how it sits. Photos are especially useful.
We consider weight, current metal prices and recoverable parts.
We bring a flatbed and winch, so no wheels or seized brakes are not a problem.
Cash or e-transfer, plus a signed bill of sale.
Scrap cars can sink into dirt, lose their tires or become surrounded by brush. Tell us:
This helps us bring the right equipment the first time.
Heavier vehicles contain more metal.
These change with the market.
Aluminium wheels, engine blocks and copper wiring add value.
Often the most valuable single item.
Missing engines, transmissions and other heavy parts reduce value.
Garbage or extra tires may need cleanup.

Bring proof of ownership and photo ID. Old registration is fine even if it expired years ago. For an estate vehicle, bring documents showing your authority to sell. Our Alberta car selling paperwork guide walks through the details.
